Blog Article
Madrid, Spain — Volunteers from the Church of Scientology, Youth for Human Rights and Fundación MEJORA have taken human rights education into the streets of Madrid.
Wearing distinctive blue shirts, volunteers distributed booklets explaining the 30 articles of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The activity coincided with public discussions in Spain's capital about housing, freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. The educational campaign was independent of the housing demonstrations.
The volunteers used resources from internationally established human rights education programmes supported by Scientology. The publications introduce fundamental principles including non-discrimination, freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and the right to education.
The Universal Declaration connects human dignity with social protections and recognises education as an important means of advancing respect for fundamental freedoms.
Ivan Arjona, Scientology's representative to the EU, OSCE, Council of Europe and UN, connected the initiative with Europe's commitment to human dignity and fundamental freedoms.
The programme forms part of the Church of Scientology's wider support for human rights education, rooted in the importance L. Ron Hubbard placed on fundamental freedoms.
The outreach brought internationally news eu parlament recognised human rights principles into everyday conversations in the Spanish capital.
